Annual Oratorical Contest
The Optimist Club of Hamilton is pleased to host an annual Oratorical Contest. It provides youth with the opportunity to express themselves and gain confidence in their abilities to express themselves and has been a focus for the Optimist Club of Oakville since its inception. Optimist Clubs have hosted Oratorical Contests since 1928. Starting in 2016, Optimist International has partnered with St. Louis University to conduct the Optimist Oratorical World Championships, which gives students the opportunity to receive further scholarships. Competition begins at the local Optimist Club level, and continues through the Zone, District, Regional, and finally International levels, with cash prizes and scholarships awarded at most levels. The winner of the International Competition will accumulate scholarships totalling $22,500.00!
The topic for the next 2017-18 Oratorical Contest will be: Where are my Roots of Optimism? The 2017-18 Oratorical Contest Rules and Oratorical Application Form are now available. The deadline to submit an Oratorical application to the Optimist Club of Hamilton is January 15th, 2017. Here are the Contest Rules and Application Form. Below are our winners of the Zone 2 Oratorical Contest and the winners of the Central Ontario District Competition.
The winners of the Regional Contests move on to the World Championships at the Saint Louis University Center for Global Citizenship. It is possible to watch them online at www.optimist.org/stream. There will be a detailed schedule of dates and times.
