Optimist Club of Hamilton Helps Raise Awareness of Prostate Cancer
It is estimated there are 1.2 million men with prostate cancer in Canada;
however, 800,000 men don’t know they have it. Why are there so many Canadian men with undiagnosed prostate cancer? Because men don’t talk about it, don’t regularly go to their doctors, and don’t enjoy getting a prostate exam.
That’s where the Ride For Dad comes in; it gets men talking about and women talking to men about it. It promotes awareness in the community year round, and because of this awareness countless men have gone to their doctors to undergo testing, and many of them have been diagnosed early and successfully treated!
This year Walter Gretzky officially started the ride. The Optimist Club of Hamilton fed approximately 300 motorcycle riders an early breakfast and after about a 200 km trip, they returned to Hamilton for lunch. In the photos below the Optimist members prepared food for the participants. A great 2017 Ride for Dad!
